Dachau

Some things may never be forgotten!
Dachau concentration camp memorial.

70 km - 1.5 hours to drive
Tour character: Informative historical review

" Dachau - the significance of this name will never be erased from German history. It stands for all concentration camps which the Nazis established in their territory." (Eugen Kogon)

When the Nazis opened the first German concentration camp in 1933 at Dachau, the city became a tragic symbol for Nazi Germany. 206 000 registered prisoners arrived between 1933 and 1945. The number of people that could survive the camp was dramatically smaller.

Arbeit macht frei - "work makes one free"
Most cynically slogan at the camps main entrance.

The museum and the rebuilt barracksgive visitors insight into the conditions prisoners endured. Every effort has been made to present the facts. Photographs show the rise of the Nazi regime and the superpower of the SS.

The Dachau KZ tour is a truly moving experience.
You can visit the memorial from
Tuesday to Sunday 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.
An English version of a documentary film is shown at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. (Highly recommended but tough to watch)
